    On Wednesday, Dec. 16 Commissioner Jones will visit Stein Elementary School to present the Title I Distinguished School Award. The Title I Distinguished School Program is a joint project of the U.S. Department of Education and the National Association of State Title I Directors. The distinguished schools receive an award of $10,000 and will be recognized at the National Title I Conference in Washington, D.C. in January. | Time: 2:30 p.m. | Location: Stein Elementary School, 80 South Teller St., Lakewood

    On Saturday, Dec. 5 at noon, the commissioner will host a lunch forum with students. Commissioner Jones will discuss statewide initiatives to improve Colorado public education. Students will share their perspectives and recommendations for improving student academic achievement and mastery of the critical skills needed for success in college and the workplace. Also on Saturday, the commissioner will be a guest speaker at the fourth general session, “Governing from Good to Great!” The session begins at 2 p.m.

    On Thursday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 a.m., Commissioner Jones will participate in the “Early Bird CASB Coffee.” At 11:30 a.m., he will attend a lunch meeting of the Commissioner’s Superintendents Advisory Council and at 5:30 p.m. he will attend a reception for CASB President Bill Bregar.

    The Colorado Department of Education offices will be closed on Wednesday, Nov. 25 and Thursday, Nov. 26 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Offices also will be closed on Friday, Nov. 27 as the department participates in a state- mandated furlough day.
