The Alumni is an innovative new publication and Web site designed to chronicle and enhance the high school experience. The Alumni is a news publication that covers every high school in every classification in Colorado. Our staff has put together a highly interactive Web site - www.thealumninews.org - to track academics, activities and athletics across the state 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Alumni News Agency is an associate member of the Colorado Press Association and a corporate sponsor of the Colorado High School Activities Association. We vow to give equal exposure, equal opportunity and an equal voice to all students enrolled in Colorado high schools.
To cover every high school in Colorado, we would like to work hand-in-hand with each high school's newspaper team. If you do not have a school newspaper, your English department can help us highlight a story about your high school each month. Stories can focus on a diversity of topics - musical events, theatrical plays, prominent personalities at your school, sporting events, crafts fairs, fashions shows, for example. The Alumni staff will edit and publish your stories in our newspaper and/or Web site.
Here are a few requirements for each story:
1. We request only one story per month (October 2009-May 2010)
2. 500 words per story
3. Follow The Associated Press style of writing and The Alumni style guide (follow article submission instructions)
4. Stories should be accompanied by at least two photographs with photo captions and photo credits
5. Provide name of writer at top of story
6. Provide official name of school below writer's name
7. Send stories and photographs to us via the Submit an Article tab at www.thealumninews.org
8. Only one applicant will be chosen per school. Other rules and regulations will apply.
As an incentive, The Alumni will award a $500 Colorado High School Student Journalist of the Year Scholarship Award to be announced in May 2010. This will be awarded to the high school student who has submitted the most impressive package of stories throughout the school year. This award will be chosen by our staff. Remember, only one article per month per student will be accepted for publishing consideration.
We look forward to hearing from your high school. You can contact Executive Director Joe Ybarra by e-mail at joeybarra@thealumninews.org for more information. DEADLINE: September 15, 2009.
